Generative AI use cases for Singapore businesses, by industry
Realistic, proven uses of generative AI in logistics, F&B, retail, property, professional services, education and clinics, with notes on the risks in each.
Lists of AI use cases tend to be either too vague to act on or too futuristic to be useful. This one is limited to things we have seen working in Singapore companies of 10 to 200 staff, using tools available today. For each sector we note one use case that is usually a good starting point and one risk to watch.
Logistics, trading and distribution
Paperwork is the obvious target. Delivery orders, commercial invoices, packing lists and bills of lading arrive in different formats from different partners, and someone has to key them into the system.
- Document extraction: reading supplier documents and populating the ERP or accounting system, with a person reviewing anything the system is unsure of
- Customer updates: drafting shipment status replies from tracking data
- Quotation drafting: turning a customer's email request into a structured quotation using your rate tables
Good starting point: invoice and delivery-order extraction, because accuracy is easy to measure. Risk to watch: silent errors in figures. Always validate totals and quantities against the source.
F&B
Margins are thin and staff time is scarce, so the best uses are small and practical.
- Answering reservation and catering enquiries on WhatsApp and the website
- Summarising reviews from Google and delivery platforms into weekly themes
- Menu and promotion copy in English and Chinese, reviewed by staff before use
- Supplier price comparison from invoices over time
Good starting point: an enquiry assistant for catering and private bookings. Risk to watch: allergen and dietary information. Never let an assistant improvise answers on this.
Retail and e-commerce
- Product descriptions generated from supplier specifications in your brand voice
- Customer service for order status, returns and sizing questions
- Search and recommendations on your online store that understand natural-language queries
Good starting point: product description drafting for large catalogues. Risk to watch: invented product features. Ground descriptions strictly in the specification data.
Property and real estate
- Listing drafts from property details and photos, checked by the agent
- Lead qualification on enquiries from portals and WhatsApp
- Tenancy document review to flag non-standard clauses for a person to check
Good starting point: first-reply assistant for portal and WhatsApp enquiries. Risk to watch: advertising rules. Listings must remain accurate, and agents remain responsible for what is published.
Professional services (accounting, legal, consulting, HR)
These firms sell expertise and time, so tools that speed up drafting and research have a direct effect on capacity.
- Internal knowledge assistant that searches past work, templates and procedures
- First drafts of engagement letters, proposals and standard reports
- Meeting notes and action points from recorded client calls, with consent
- Document comparison between versions of contracts or financial statements
Good starting point: an internal assistant over your template library and SOPs. Risk to watch: client confidentiality. Use business-grade tools with clear data terms, and check engagement letters for restrictions.
Education and training centres
- Parent and student enquiries about schedules, fees and enrolment
- Practice questions and worksheets generated to a syllabus, reviewed by teachers
- Feedback drafting on student work, with the teacher making the final judgement
Good starting point: enquiry handling during peak enrolment periods. Risk to watch: accuracy of syllabus-related content. Teachers must review anything students see.
Clinics and healthcare-adjacent services
Healthcare carries more risk, so we recommend starting with administrative work only.
- Appointment enquiries and reminders
- Transcription and summarising of consultation notes for the doctor to review and approve
- Claims and referral paperwork drafting
Good starting point: appointment and general enquiry handling, with no clinical advice. Risk to watch: medical data is highly sensitive. Check PDPA obligations and any sector guidelines carefully, and keep clinical decisions with clinicians.
What these have in common
The successful use cases share three traits. The task is repetitive and well defined. A person can easily check whether the output is right. And the cost of an occasional error is low, or caught by a review step. If a use case you are considering lacks all three, it is probably not the right place to start. Our adoption roadmap explains how to score and choose between options.
